How comparisons work

Every lodge package is entered field by field from its own rate page, brochure or a direct reply from the operator — never inferred from a similar property. Comparisons line up the same fields across properties (plan type, access method, inclusions, party rules, price) so you’re reading the same thing in every column. We never blend two packages into one row, and a currency mismatch between properties is called out, never silently converted.

What “observed date” means

The observed date is the day we last read the source page or document a fact came from. It is not a booking date, a season date or a last-modified date on the lodge’s website — it is the day a person on our side confirmed the fact was still on the page.

Why some fields are unknown

Every fact on BorealBound carries one of six states. Unknown is a real, permanent answer we show you — never quietly treated as zero, and never confused with a fact a lodge has stated it does not offer.

How true cost is calculated

The True Trip Cost calculator starts from a package’s stated price and adds the costs a brochure price usually leaves out: fuel, groceries, licences, gratuity and tax. Every assumption we add — like a fuel price band — is shown and editable, and a currency conversion always shows its rate and timestamp, labeled as a fallback on the rare occasion the live lookup fails. Where a cost genuinely can’t be bounded (for example, tax that depends on facts we don’t have), we show it as an unbounded unknown rather than inventing a number.

Ranking policy

Lodges cannot pay us for placement, ranking, a better badge or a faster review of a correction. Default sort orders (like lowest price or most recently observed) are based only on the facts in our database.

Affiliate policy

If we ever add affiliate links, they will be clearly disclosed and will never change a comparison’s order or the facts shown. An affiliate relationship will never appear inside a paid comparison.

Correction process

Anyone — a visitor or the lodge operator themselves — can suggest a correction on any fact, for free, without creating an account. A person reviews every submission against the original source before it’s accepted; nothing is auto-published. Accepted corrections create a new, dated record — we never silently overwrite history.

BorealBound is not a booking agency, a government body or a legal adviser. Change log

Every accepted correction and every re-observed source creates a new, dated record rather than overwriting the old one — we keep the history, we just don’t have a page that displays it to you yet. A public, per-property change log is planned; until then, the observed date on every fact is the honest signal of how current it is.
